AL57KD emblem “From Riga to Adelaide”
We are honoured and delighted to present the 57th Australian Latvian Arts Festival emblem and logo.
It is a design which represents Latvian immigration from Latvia to Australia, and indeed Adelaide around 60 years ago, as well as our need to return to our homeland, metaphorically or literally, on a regular basis.
The central motif is a stylised stork; a large, noble and sacred bird who protects the homes of those fortunate to have them and brings good luck to its occupants. It annually migrates long distances, but then returns to its homeland. The choice of a white stork by young Adelaide designer Karl Daenke, also pays homage to the 100 years which have passed since Latvija’s declaration of independence as Latvians now travel in a migratory fashion between the two countries. The design found in the nest incorporates the sign of good fortune, Laima.
The motto “From Riga to Adelaide” recognizes the journeys of the past that have ended in Adelaide, as well as the striking opportunity to travel from the song festival held in Latvia in its 100th year, to another emotionally charged cultural event in Adelaide. Like the stork, Latvians will travel long distances to connect with their heritage either in Riga or in Adelaide.
You are warmly invited to join us in Adelaide between from 26 to 31 December at the 57th Australian Latvian Arts Festival. Let us celebrate 100 years of Latvian independence and the journey that has been undertaken.
