What’s happening in preparation for AL57KD in Adelaide??
We will soon reach the milestone of 250 days until the start of the 57th Australian Latvian Arts Festival in Adelaide. The organising committee is working hard towards this goal. We have received confirmation that the elite folk dancing ensemble Rotaļa will be participating. This ansemble from Riga is one of the top rated ensembles in Latvia and has received many awards. They are eager to participate in the Festival and to enjoy the Australian summer. Rotaļa will perform in the main folk dancing concert on 28th December in Scott Theatre. They will also have their own concert (called “Along the sun’s path”) the following day on 29th December also at Scott Theatre. There is already keen interest in obtaining tickets to these performances.
The Festival’s opening concert will be held on 26th December in the Latvian Hall. Lilita Daenke is working hard to ensure this important concert will be memorable as it sets the stage for the rest of the Festival’s week. The male choir Veseris from Melbourne will participate in its unique style and repertoire. There will be other interesting performances which will be revealed at a later stage.
Our marketing and promotions is coordinated by Maris Ozols. He is also responsible for the Festival’s website which contains the daily events and lots of other useful information. Keep an eye out for regular updates about the Festival on our website. Here you’ll also find a link to our Facebook page which has regular updates provided in graphical, video and text based formats.
Festival updates also occur once a month on the Latvian radio programme in Adelaide which is run by Skaidrite Agulevica. We invite you to listen in for interesting updates from various organising committee members. The program is broadcast on the last Thursday of every calendar month at 7PM Adelaide time on 103.1FM. You can also listen in via the live stream at www.5ebi.com.au.
Inara Kalnina is responsible for organising the New Year’s Eve Ball. She is well known for her catering skills and also teaches Latvian cooking classes from time to time. The Ball will be held at The Ellington which is close to the city centre. South Australian wines will be available on the night. Expect catering to be of a high standard with impressive presentation. A Latvian band will be performing which will include Latvian music and dances. We invite everyone to come along and enjoy themeselves and await the New Year. More information regarding tickets will be forthcoming.
This Festival is one of the prime events on the Australian Latvian calendar. We invite all who would like to be exposed to the Latvian culture and events during this festive week. Adelaide warmly awaits your attendance.
From Riga to Adelaide. See you at the Festival!
